A security concern arose inside the West Bengal Assembly on Monday after five pairs of women’s slippers were found placed outside the chamber of Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari. All slippers were of different colours and appeared to be women’s footwear. The presence of the slippers triggered questions over access and movement within the Assembly premises.
Suvendu Adhikari’s personal assistant informed that he was the first to spot the slippers outside the chamber. “I first informed the marshal. Then the deputy marshal came, took photographs of the slippers, and acknowledged the incident,” he said. The chamber is located in a secure zone of the Assembly, raising concerns about how the items were placed there without detection.
A request has been made to check CCTV footage from the Assembly corridor to identify who left the slippers at the spot. No one has claimed ownership of the footwear so far. The matter has been taken up by Assembly security officials, and further review of footage is awaited to trace the movement in the area.
